Aston Villa have confirmed the departure of manager Robert de Pauw after less than six months in charge of the club.

The 43-year-old took charge of the Midlands club over the summer following a spell in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen. He replaced Carla Ward, who vacated her position at the end of the 2023/24 campaign in order to prioritise her family.

Villa have won just one of their nine Women’s Super League (WSL) games this season, drawn three and lost five. They sit ninth in the standings on six points, just one clear of Leicester City and Crystal Palace.

“We would like to thank Robert for his commitment during his time in charge and wish him well for the future. Shaun Goater will be in charge until a new manager is appointed and will be supported by the wider coaching team.”

Villa are in action this evening with a League Cup group stage clash against Championship side Charlton Athletic. They will then host West Ham at Villa Park on Sunday in the WSL for their final game of 2024, with the winter break to follow.
