Chelsea have officially triggered their purchase obligation for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho after Sunday's victory over Fulham.

The Blues' agreement with United included a permanent transfer clause if they finished above 15th in the Premier League, with the final fee ranging from £20m to £25m depending on where Enzo Maresca's side actually end up finishing.

Thanks to their 2-1 win over Fulham on Sunday, Chelsea are now mathematically assured of finishing in the positions required to trigger their obligation. As it stands, Sancho will be remaining at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea are not yet thought to have made a decision regarding Sancho's permanent future, leaving the door open to paying the fee and sending the 25-year-old back to United at the end of the season.

After a red-hot start to life at Chelsea, Sancho has endured a mixed run in blue. He has managed just three goals and five assists in 27 Premier League games, suffering through a lengthy drought in front of goal before a recent upturn in form.

It has been suggested that Chelsea could follow through with their obligation to sign Sancho, but only to try and sell him on for a profit. Former employers Borussia Dortmund are reportedly keen and it was claimed last month that the winger is looking to return to the Bundesliga regardless of whether he joins Chelsea or not this summer.

United, for their part, have already ruled out reintegrating Sancho into their squad and will pursue a permanent sale if he does return to Old Trafford.
