Erling Haaland has signed a blockbuster new Manchester City contract that ties him to the club until the summer of 2034.

The Norwegian is into his third season at the Etihad Stadium and has already notched 111 goals across all competitions from 126 appearances - 79 of those strikes coming in just 87 Premier League games.

Haaland's previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2027 and there had been strong suggestions that Real Madrid or Barcelona, despite their ongoing financial woes, would attempt to lure him to LaLiga in order to play alongside or against the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Pedri and Gavi.

Fabrizio Romano states that a new clause will come into effect from 2029 onwards, though it's unclear what the figure would be and is only described as 'very high numbers'.

Haaland's commitment for the vast majority of his playing career is a massive boost to a City team who have endured a torrid campaign that will almost certainly see them relinquish their Premier League crown.

City have won the title six times out of eight under Pep Guardiola, but a shocking run of form that yielded just two wins in 14 matches across all competitions has left them 12 points off the Premier League pace set by Liverpool - they also have a game in hand - and also well down the reformatted Champions League table in 22nd.

Victories in City's final two group games will be needed to secure safe passage through to the next phase, no doubt putting the pressure on Haaland's shoulders to deliver. The 24-year-old has scored five times in six Champions League appearances so far this season, while he sits second in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot behind Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

News of Haaland's new contract is expected to be made official soon, in what is an exceptionally busy month for City in the transfer market. Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush is closing on a big-money move, and he looks set to be joined by centre-back duo Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.
