Two Premier League ever-presents meet at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon as Tottenham Hotspur travel to Everton.

These historic clubs have been trophy-shy in contemporary times, and perhaps both clubs see a little bit of themselves in the other. The pair of inherently pessimistic fanbases have been subject to bleak 2024/25 campaigns thus far, although many would argue that Everton are performing to pre-season expectations.

Sean Dyche left the Toffees 16th in the table and barely above the drop zone. David Moyes has since been drafted in as his successor, but the returning Scot oversaw a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in midweek.

They remain in all the cup competitions - Postecoglou's saving grace - but Spurs' return of five points from a possible 29 over their previous nine league outings can only be described as relegation form.

Here's 90min's guide to Sunday's Premier League clash.

Everton team news

David Moyes

Everton will soon have Dwight McNeil and James Garner available again, but the pair are set to miss out on Sunday with respective knee and back injuries.

Seamus Coleman has also been suffering from muscle problems and is a doubt for Tottenham's visit, while strikers Youssef Chermiti and Armando Broja are sidelined. Dominic Calvert-Lewin will likely remain up top despite his wasteful showing in midweek. Moyes does have Beto as an alternative.

Nathan Patterson could come in for Ashley Young at right-back, with Jesper Lindstrom also pushing for a start in attack.

Tottenham team news

Richarlison

Richarlison came off the bench in the derby after a couple of months out with a hamstring injury. Son Heung-min scored on Wednesday but has performed poorly this season, and we could soon see the Brazilian emerge as a genuine option down the left for Postecoglou.

Ben Davies could be back in the matchday squad on Sunday, but Spurs will likely have to stick with the same makeshift defence at Goodison Park. Brennan Johnson is a sudden doubt with a calf injury further forward.

Wilson Odobert, Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Timo Werner are all out injured.

Everton vs Tottenham score prediction

Can both teams lose?

Moyes' Everton won't be too dissimilar to Dyche's iteration, and they'll remain a tough team to beat, especially at Goodison. The Toffees would've got a point on Wednesday had Calvert-Lewin reverted to his early 2020/21 season self and not the version which has manifested since.

Spurs should enjoy control and territory here, but they've hardly proven themselves to be proficient lock pickers against compact defences. Their issues from set-pieces haven't been as noticeable compared to last season, but the hosts will doubtlessly aim to dominate from such situations on Sunday.

All results are on the table here, but the visitors may walk away with a desperately needed three points.

Prediction: Everton 1-2 Tottenham
