Liverpool remain interested in Alexander Isak but will not match Newcastle United's £150m valuation of the superstar striker.

The Reds are one of the many European giants keeping close tabs on the Sweden international, who is enjoying another dazzling campaign with the Magpies. Having hit 25 goals in all competitions last season, Isak has already breached the 20-goal mark again this term - including scoring in Newcastle's victorious Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona are among the sides who have also shown interest in the 25-year-old ahead of the summer window, although Newcastle are insistent they don't want to lose their prized asset in the near future.

However, according to The Athletic, while Liverpool "admire" Isak, it remains "highly unlikely" that they would accept Newcastle's £150m price tag. A deal is not off the table, but any move "depends on the numbers involved".

The report also reveals that Liverpool are not expected to make a "marquee signing" over the summer and are instead set to spread funds across the squad. The Reds need reinforcements elsewhere and can't commit to spending such an enormous sum on one player.

Liverpool are expected to sign a new left-back and have reportedly identified Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez as an ideal recruit, while a new defensive midfielder and centre-back could be on the cards. With Trent Alexander-Arnold expected to leave for Real Madrid at the end of his contract, a new right-back will likely be needed, too.
