Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is reportedly "open to the possibility" of joining Roma on loan for the remainder of the season.

Casemiro has long been linked with a United exit, having struggled to hit the heights of his debut season at Old Trafford in 2022/23, during which he became a cult hero with fans.

The Brazilian, expensively signed from Real Madrid for an initial £60m and one of the club's highest earners, has fallen out of favour under new head coach Ruben Amorim. Casemiro has been an unused substitute in eight of the last ten Premier League games and is yet to play at all in 2025.

Sky Sport Italia first reported a willingness from United to allow Casemiro to depart on loan during the final days of the winter transfer window, with the player specifically open to Roma. Should Leandro Paredes depart to Boca Juniors, as rumoured, it would pave the way for an approach.

United's understandable preference is said to be a permanent transfer. Casemiro has been regularly linked with the Saudi Pro League, but Sky adds that permanent offers have not been received.

The more methodical and measured style of football in Italy could suit Casemiro, who turns 33 next month, at this stage of his career. The five-time Champions League winner, while initially a hit in English football, has seemed off the pace since struggling with injury in the first half of last season.

Casemiro's contract with United runs until 2026, so it remains to be seen how his longer-term future beyond the end of this campaign might be resolved if a loan were to be agreed.
