Mohamed Salah revealed that Liverpool's renewed ability to compete for and win trophies was a major factor behind his decision to sign a new two-year deal.

Liverpool's talisman was creeping towards the final weeks of his existing contract before confirming his renewal on Friday morning. Throughout the season, Salah had repeatedly teased his potential departure.

At the start of January, the 32-year-old described the current campaign as his "last year" at Liverpool having previously claimed to be "more out than in".

Yet, the sought-after forward chose Liverpool chiefly because of their ability to compete for the biggest prizes the sport has to offer. "If I don't believe that I would have not signed. I believe the team can win trophies," Salah told the club's official website after ending his contract saga.

"With the support of the fans and the city, and the support they always give us in the games, I believe we can win many trophies in the next years."

Liverpool may have suffered disappointment in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Champions League, but Slot's side need to win just a maximum of 11 points to lift the club's second-ever Premier League title.

"I think I said in the beginning of the season, I just want to win the Premier League more than anything else. I want it so bad, to be fair.

"The fans deserve it - last time we won it we didn't celebrate it that much. Hopefully we do it this time. There's still seven games to go, it's not going to be easy at all because Arsenal are also catching up.

"We'll give it our all and hopefully in the end we can win it."
