Premier League confirm nominees for April Player & Manager of the Month awards

The Premier League have revealed the nominees for the penultimate round of individual monthly awards this season.

Seven players from five clubs are vying for individual recognition. Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers dominate the standings after both racked up five Premier League victories - more than any other top-flight club last month.

Five managers have been nominated for April's prize, including freshly crowned top-flight champion Arne Slot, but there is only one obvious winner.

Strand Larsen recorded four April goals - and a miss which left him moaning: "I've never been that embarrassed." That tally represented a division high which he shared with Newcastle's Harvey Barnes. Having been restricted to a substitute's role, the English winger took his chance when in the first team. Eddie Howe held Barnes up to an example for the rest of the squad's fringe players to follow.

"They need to impress me," Howe said at the start of the month. "They need to show that they're better than the player in their position and that's a really healthy squad dynamic to have, so for anyone not playing, that's how they need to view it."

Jacob Murphy has also taken full advantage of his first-team minutes, scoring three goals and registering as many assists. Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers was the only player in the top flight who created more goals than Murphy in April, boasting four.

Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister may not be able to match the quantity of his peers' attacking output, but few can top the quality of his strikes. The Argentine midfielder chased by Real Madrid blasted two thumping efforts into the top corner against Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur.

There is only one clear candidate for April's Manager of the Month. Vitor Pereira's Wolves boasted a 100% record last month, winning all five matches. After a March victory over Southampton, the Molineux outfit have racked up six successive top-flight triumphs for the first time since 1970.

"I'm very proud of my team and our supporters. Happiness and good football," Pereira beamed after his side's 3-0 stroll against Leicester City last weekend. "I'm happy." Much like every Wolves fan.

Eddie Howe also found his way onto the list of nominees despite missing half of Newcastle's April games with pneumonia. Unai Emery masterminded a thumping victory over a Howe-less Newcastle in April and also finds his way onto April's shortlist alongside his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola.

Such has been Wolves' transformation under Pereira, Liverpool's Arne Slot may be edged out of the monthly award. The Dutchman will have to settle for being crowned Premier League champion.
