Rangers 3-0 Celtic: Player ratings as Light Blues batter rivals in Old Firm derby
Player ratings and match reaction from the Old Firm derby between Rangers and Celtic.
Rangers condemned rivals Celtic to a first Scottish Premiership defeat of the season in the Old Firm derby on Thursday afternoon, securing an impressive 3-0 victory at Ibrox.
Rangers made the dream start despite their recent woes in this fixture and found themselves ahead within seven minutes. Liam Scales' wayward pass was pounced upon by the hosts and Ianis Hagi eventually capitalised, drilling a low effort beyond Kasper Schmeichel from 20 yards out.
Vaclav Cerny's deflected effort almost doubled Rangers' advantage less than ten minutes later as the crossbar spared Celtic, and the visitors continually struggled to manage the intensity of their rivals during a dominant first half for the Light Blues.
Kyogo Furuhashi came close to an equaliser shortly after the restart, producing an excellent touch and finish to beat Liam Kelly, but the offside flag rightly denied the Japanese forward against one of his favourite opponents.
The linesman kept his flag by his side at the other end as Cerny struck the woodwork for the second time at Ibrox. The Czech winger raced through on goal and slammed an effort against the base of the post on the hour mark, although VAR may well have ruled out the effort had it breached Schmeichel's goal.
However, the Light Blues would soon double their lead as a teasing corner found the head of the energetic Nicolas Raskin, who saw his shot rebuffed into the path of Robin Propper. The Dutch defender slid in at the far post to send the home supporters into frenzy and put the Gers in a commanding position heading into the final 25 minutes.
Rangers delved further into dreamland in the 81st minute as substitute Danilo, who had only been on the pitch for 70 seconds, slotted home from close range following a fortuitous deflection, securing a statement victory to ease pressure on under-fire Gers boss Philippe Clement.
Celtic's woeful Old Firm display has seen their lead atop the Scottish Premiership table cut to 11 points as Rangers move further clear of third-placed Aberdeen.
