Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres will not join Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, according to reports.

The Portuguese boss was named as Erik ten Hag's permanent successor on Friday after the Red Devils triggered his €10m (£8.4m) release clause to bring him to Old Trafford. Amorim was quickly identified as the right man to take over from the Dutchman, putting pen to paper with the club just days after Ten Hag's official sacking.

While fans were initially excited about the appointment of a new head coach, speculation soon grew over whether any of Sporting's stars would jet off with Amorim.

As per reports from Portuguese newspaper Record, Gyokeres "turns his nose up" at the idea of joining United and would much rather a move elsewhere if he is to leave Sporting.

Gyokeres has built a reputation as one of the continent's most impressive goalscorers after netting 20 goals in just 16 appearances already this season. He found the back of the net 43 times last year while featuring in 50 games for Sporting.

It's believed that the striker will not follow Amorim, who initially gave him his big break after stealing the 26-year-old away from Coventry City in 2023. When asked to comment on his future previously, Gyokeres admitted that he's happy with his situation at Sporting.

"I'm here, and I really like being here," he said. "It's not something I think about. I'm enjoying it here. It's difficult to talk about the future, but we will definitely do the same job and continue to give our best. We wish him [Amorim] the best. It's very good for him."
