Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has revealed that he is "all good" after requiring extensive treatment during the first half of Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Liverpool.

Bentancur crumpled to the turf at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium inside the opening ten minutes. The Uruguay international was under no contact from any other players and seemed to hit his head on the ground while attacking a corner kick. The midfielder remained prone and face down, sparking serious concern among both sets of players.

After almost ten minutes of on-pitch treatment, Bentancur was stretchered off the pitch to the back drop of a standing ovation.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was asked about the incident after the match. "It was worrying and that [a head injury] is always concerning, but we think at this stage he is going to be OK," the manager stressed. "He was conscious on his way to the dressing room."

When pushed on the type of injury Bentancur had sustained, Postecoglou could only offer vagaries: "I don't want to speculate because I don't really know either. All I know is he was conscious when he came off.

"Obviously it was some sort of head injury, but he was conscious when he was coming off the field. And he's been taken to the hospital for observation. But I'm not really clear on how it happened.

"Unless I get a doctor out here, I'm not going to speculate because it's just not fair on people around him. There was concern from players out there so obviously there was something going on."

Spurs travel to the home of fifth-tier Tamworth in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday lunchtime before a north London derby at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium next Wednesday. While Bentancur is unlikely to feature in either of those fixtures, it remains to be seen whether he will be available for the semi-final second leg against Liverpool at Anfield in the first week of February.
