Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero has refused to commit his future to the club, admitting he plans to discuss his next move at the end of the season.

Romero is heading into the final two years of his contract and, with Spurs labouring towards the bottom of the Premier League table, has been heavily linked with a departure from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Real Madrid are long-term admirers but most of the speculation has involved Atletico Madrid, where manager Diego Simeone is even said to have spoken with the 26-year-old centre-back about a summer switch.

"There are almost two months left of the season, and I want to perform at my best and try to finish it in the best way possible," he explained. "We are in the semi-final of the Europa League, which is an important step for the club after so many years that it has not reached this stage.

"After that, we'll see. In the end, I would like to win it, but it depends on many things.

"The truth is that I have not spoken with my agent yet, but I am willing to do anything. My focus is always on growing and looking for new places to continue developing, but I don't want to talk about that yet because there are a few months left to finish the season."

Romero then went on to admit his desire to play in La Liga - a significant claim given the nature of the interest in his services.

"La Liga is a league I would love to play in and need to play in because it is the league that I lack [to play in every top division]," he revealed.

Romero, who is said to be frustrated with Spurs' management of his fitness this season, remains a valuable asset even if his contract is slowly winding down.

Previous reports have described Romero as "untouchable" in Ange Postecoglou's squad and any interested side would likely have to give Spurs the chance to make a significant profit on the £42.5m they paid in 2022.
