Vinicius Junior had to be physically restrained down the tunnel as Real Madrid's 3-0 win over Mallorca on Thursday ended in a brawl.

The Brazil international has been involved in a long-running war of words with Mallorca right-back Pablo Maffeo, who has previously joked about knocking Vinicius out "in ten seconds" if the pair ever clashed on the field.

Tensions between the two players boiled over just minutes into Thursday's game. Maffeo pushed Vinicius, who responded with a slap on the Mallorca defender's chest which sent him theatrically tumbling to the ground.

Jude Bellingham opened the scoring for Madrid shortly after the hour mark. Vinicius was withdrawn with two minutes remaining, after which an own goal and a 95th-minute strike from Rodrygo removed any doubt about the result.

Maffeo's reaction to the third goal was enough to spark a reaction from both Bellingham and centre-back Raul Asencio, who ended up at the centre of a huge brawl as the game came to a close.

Vinicius involved himself in the dispute after the final whistle and footage shows him being physically restrained down the tunnel as he attempted to claw his way over to Mallorca's side.

"We're not talking about him, it's what he wants," Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni said of Maffeo after the game.

The ugly nature of the game's conclusion disappointed Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

"It was an unnecessary fight for both teams," he told the press. "It makes no sense.

"It was unnecessary, the game was already over. I don't blame anyone, neither the Mallorca players nor the Real Madrid players. But a 'fight' like that was unnecessary. The players were a bit heated and I tried to calm things down a bit with Maffeo. Well, in the end nothing happened. But that ending wasn't necessary."
