Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes could be offered an astonishing contract worth £1m per week by Saudi Pro League heavyweights Al Hilal, a new report has revealed.

The 30-year-old has been the standout player of another troubling campaign for the former 13-time Premier League winners. United have struggled to effectively implement the ideas of head coach Ruben Amorim, who was appointed in November, and will finish the season with their lowest ever points tally regardless of whether they win their final four matches.

They do have a great chance of winning the Europa League – an achievement that would hand United the most unlikely of qualifications into the Champions League – and are relying on the brilliance of Fernandes to do so. The Portugal international has scored 19 goals and contributed 18 assists across all competitions.

A contract worth an incredible £1m per week could even be put forward to Fernandes, dwarfing the healthy £250,000 weekly salary he currently earns at Old Trafford. His current contract runs until 2027 and has an 12-month optional extension attached, though United's stance on a potential exit is said to be clear – he's not for sale and is central to Amorim's plans moving forward.

There's no indication that Fernandes is ready to entertain the prospect of leaving, but he would be joining some illustrious company in Saudi Arabia were he to be tempted away.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the obvious attraction – he plays for Al Nassr alongside Sadio Mane and other notable Premier League alumni – while Al Hilal have Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves on their books, both international teammates of Fernandes.

Initial 'exploratory talks' are reported to have been held with Fernandes' representatives, likely to engage whether or not he'd have any interest in leaving the Premier League. But he's spoken of his desire to lead United back to their former glory, and victory in the Europa League would be a huge feather in his cap as the club continue to go through a challenging period of transition.
